Introduction

This is the service path for a water maker: membrane replacement, pump service, control board diagnostics, system flushing, and the correct maintenance sequence. Note: we do not descale water makers — we service them.

Why it matters: the membrane is the most expensive component and the one that fails first. A clogged filter chain starves it and causes it to fail prematurely. Check the filters before you replace the membrane.

02

Membrane replacement: the correct procedure

When the output drops below spec, the first thing to check is the pre-filters. If the filters are clean and the output is still low, the membrane is at end-of-life and needs replacement.

  1. Isolate the system and drain the water.
  2. Remove the old membrane.
  3. Install the new membrane.
  4. Flush the system with fresh water before pressurizing.
  5. Verify the output.

Do not skip the flush — a dry membrane can be damaged by the first pressurization.

03

Pump service and control board diagnostics

The high-pressure pump is the second most expensive component. The most common failure is the seal — it weeps, the pump loses pressure, and the output drops. The control board is the third component to check: if the pump is running but the output is low, the board may be limiting the pump speed, and the cause is often a sensor fault or a communication error.

Before you replace the pump, check the control board and the sensor readings — a board fault can mimic a pump failure.

04

System flushing and the maintenance path

The correct maintenance path is scheduled, not reactive:

  1. Replace the pre-filters on schedule.
  2. Flush the system with fresh water after each use.
  3. Check the UV lamp on schedule.
  4. Replace the membrane when the output drops.
The line to remember

Remember this line: a water maker maintained on schedule lasts for years; one that is not

will fail in months. The cost of maintenance is a fraction of the cost of a membrane replacement.
